So we’re doing this Hot Dog thing because I love hot dogs and was always telling Katie to be creative with them and try new things. So now we’re both trying new things, and I’m not sure if this was a good idea or a bad one yet.
First on our list, was the New York hot dog. I personally thought New Yorkers could come up with something a bit more creative, but I suppose we’ll take what we can get. How about a hot dog wrapped in a thin crust slice?
Anyway.
My rating: (2 / 5)
This was actually quite an unpleasant hot dog experience. This is probably because we are not in New York, and not buying these off the side of the road from some guy with a hot dog hat and riding a bicycle cart, but we did our best. The sauerkraut and onion sauce were both very cold, I don’t like cold hot dogs.
Worse they both soaked the bun and made the break incredibly soggy. So, it was a soggy, wet, unpleasant thing that I had to stick in my mouth. I’m not sure if you can tell by the look on my face how much I enjoyed it, but you know what they say about pictures and words.
I went back for seconds, because I’m a big guy and need my beef – but this time I toasted the buns in the pan for a few seconds, and tossed the sauerkraut in the pan too to cook away some of the excess pickling juice. The result: a warmer, less soggy and much more pleasant hot dog. I’d up my 2 to a 3 for that iteration. Still, not something that I’d want to eat regularly.
