Street Signs in the Country

So, I’ve done a bunch of travelling over the last few years, including several trips to the USA.  On each of my trips I have seen this phenomenon that Katie says is normal weird United States behavior.  I still don’t understand it, and logically I suppose it makes sense on some weird level, but I still don’t like it.

Take a look at the following pictures and tell me if you see anything strange.

50th Ave NW of what?  The middle of nowhere?  There are no towns around for miles and miles.  This isn’t even the worst offender.  Before this we passed a 256th St sign.  I wanted to get a picture of that but missed my chance and wasn’t turning around.  Maybe next trip.

No wonder guys in the USA are always getting lost and need to ask for directions.  When you have roads marked like this, how are you ever going to find anything?  How about the towns that only have 2 streets and the first one is 86th?  How confusing can that get?  Katie is always telling me how she prefers to have named streets so she doesn’t get confused, well, this is why.
